Poseidon
Poseidon, God of the Sea, had an unstable temperament and a bad temper. He was well known for acting violently towards anyone who angered him and could provoke earthquakes by striking the earth with his trident.
Aside from his violent and emotional outbursts, Poseidon was honoured by those who lived by the sea. He protected sailors and filled fishermen's nets with fish.
It stands to reason that because of his influence on the waters, he was worshiped in connection with navigation.
Poseidon was worshiped as a fertility God and his name means “husband” in Greek. He was husband to Amphitrite, a Nereid, and they had Triton who was half-human, half-fish. He and Medusa conceived the flying horse, Pegasus. He also pursued his sister, Demeter, who refused his advances and turned herself into a mare. Poseidon transformed into a stallion and their relations produced a horse, Arion.
