Hades
God of the Dead, and King of the Underworld. Also called God of Wealth as his kingdom includes all buried precious metals, gemstones, and seeds.
Three demigods judge the dead when they arrive in Hades (the Underworld is also called Hades) - Minos, Rhadamanthus, and Aracus.
Ancient Greeks were buried with a coin under their tongue to pay the fair to Charon, the boatman who ferried them across the river Styx to Hades. It is believed that if the deceased could not pay the boatman they would have to wait on the bank of the river for 100 years.
Cerberus is the multi-headed guard dog of the underworld. It is said the lures people into the underworld and eats anyone who tries to escape.
Sections of the underworld:
Fields of Asphodel - for those who lived a neutral life
Tartarus - for sinners
Elysium - for the good and the righteous
If the dead go to Elysium, they can choose either stay there for eternity in summer paradise or be reborn back on earth. If someone dies and goes to Elisum three times they are given permission to go to the Isle of the Blessed where only the most righteous can go.
Hades employed the Furies who tortured the guilty.
His dominion was separated from the land of the living by the rivers Styx, Lethe, Acheron, Phlegethon, and Cocytus.
